What I Learned from Golfing With Wealthy Individuals
This golf course was one of the premium ones where a membership costs in the tens of thousands. I don’t know if that’s cheap for a golf membership or what not, but the course was beautiful regardless.
Anyways, my uncle was running the charity and so he needed some volunteers. My uncle is a wealthy and successful business owner, starting his own company and building it up for more than 20 years. He is now living the luxury lifestyle and he is one of my role models.
I believed that successful people do hang out with other successful people, and so I figured that my uncle’s friends would be wealthy and successful as well.
This was the cherry on top of my volunteering because not only was I able to help out, I was able to surround myself with successful individuals.
On the day of the event, I saw a few people driving in with exotic cars which was pretty cool to see. When everyone had arrived to the course, they went into the dining room for some breakfast.
There were around 70 people, some were lawyers, entrepreneurs, doctors, professors, and majority were business owners or retired.
I’m not saying that all wealthy people are nice, but the people I met were friendly and down to earth. They were making jokes amongst themselves and just having a good time.
A lot of them tried to inspire me and gave me their wisdom which I found was nice of them to do. There were a few things I learned when I was surrounded by successful people.
Wealthy People Talk About Ideas
Since I was volunteering, I was constantly around these successful people and so I would hear the conversations they were talking about. Majority of the conversations were small talk and just talking about what was going on in their lives.
For example, one individual was talking about ways to make his product at a cheaper cost, and so he was talking to his friend and they were thinking of ways to solve the issue.
People there rarely gossiped or complained about their lives. It’s like they knew that complaining and gossiping was just a waste of time.
I am not saying that ALL wealthy people are positive, but the ones I was around were pretty positive and motivating. A lot of them were telling me to follow through on what you love. It was a good atmosphere and lots of positive energy.
How can you learn from this?
Whenever you are talking to someone and they start complaining, don’t join them but instead, change the topic to something more positive.
Complaining and gossiping does not get you anywhere.
There’s no point in complaining about how many times you got rejected with a woman, just face it and keep moving forward by learning from your mistakes.
There’s no point in complaining about how you are not making any money, just find different ways and keep learning until you actually start making money.
Throw Your Ego Out the Door
I noticed that no one bragged about how rich they were. Instead, they would talk about their friends’ success.
For example, I was talking to an individual about how they started up their own business and how much work it took to become successful in that business.
He then told his friend to come into our conversation and he then started talking about what he did and how he built up his business from the ground up.
It’s like that saying, “When you know you’re good, you tell everyone. When you know you’re great, they will tell you.” The people there did not boast about their own success and tell everyone how much money they were making.
So what did I learn from this? Be humble.
I don’t know why some people like to brag about themselves, but to each their own. If I do meet someone like that, I would avoid them the next time I would see them.
I have met humble individuals who were running multi-million dollar companies, and it is such a pleasure to have a conversation with them.
I’m not saying that all rich people are humble, but it is defiantly nice to talk to wealthy and humble individuals because you learn so much more from them.
They are willing to give you their own wisdom, motivation, and positivity because they want to see others succeed.
They truly have an abundance mentality!
